GENERAL PRESENTATION

• The Romanian Association for the Study of Pain was founded in 1990 and is a non-profit, non-govern a mental organization uniting those people in Romania who are willing to study and teach in the field of pain man a gement (research as well as therapy) .

• RASP is affiliated to the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) and to the European Federation of Chapters of the International Association for the Study of Pain (EFIC).

• Our mission is to promote all activities related to pain therapy, addressing all barriers identified in Romania: – Medical barriers – Patient barriers – Health Care System barriers

• Our goals

• To promote and encourage pain study, research and therapy

• To train the scientific personnel in order to achieve better results in pain study

• To organize and support a dedicated center for storing, processing and broadcasting pain related information

• To encourage the development of a pain centers network throughout the country

• To organize specialized congresses, symposiums and meetings

• To publish newsletters in the field of pain

• To exchange scientific information with different pain associations around the globe

• To support and promote the patients' interests

POSTUNIVERSITARY TRANING PROGRAM FOR PAIN THERAPY

• Public Health Ministry and Bucharest University Hospital organize the Postuniversitary Training Program for Pain Therapy

• The training program was started in 2003 and included five series of courses during the last 3 years, each with three modules

• Objective: Participants' apprehension of the acute and chronic pain theory and practice, with the purpose of practicing it as an extra qualification, both for private and organized use.

• Training program: acute and chronic pain physiology, pain evaluation, pain differential diagnosis, strategy for pain therapy (pharmacological, regional anesthesia techniques, TENS, PENS, acupuncture)

• Continuing Medical Education credits

 

ONGOING RASP PROJECTS

• Development of RASP guidelines on acute, chronic and neuropathic pain management: Acute pain management guidelines – PRO - PAINCONTROL project (Romanian programme of acute pain management - starting july 2006 - RASP and SRATI joint project); Neuropathic pain management guidelines to be issued september 2006; Chronic pain management guidelines - end 2006; Neoplasic pain guidelines - end 2007.

 

FUTURE PROJECTS

• Developing pain centers for pain therapy

• Attracting new ARSD members

• Promoting pain-related events – interdisciplinary meetings

• International events on certain profile of pain patology

• Exchange of newsletters and scientific information with other pain associations

• Dedicated forum for discussing with patients
